Born from the union of Babs Seed and Featherweight, News Flash and her brother lived much of their early life in the relative safety of their mother’s hometown of Manehattan, only dimly aware of Discord’s rule and the rebellion against it that all three of their second cousins were caught up in.

While News does have a good heart, she also has something of her mother's mean streak; it wouldn’t be at all unusual to find her being unkind to other foals, particularly those she regards as dorks. On top of that, News was quick to begin to see herself as the superior of the two siblings. Not only had she been gifted with her father’s wings – something her brother lacked and she wasn't afraid to gloat about – she was also one of the first ponies in her class to find her cutie mark. Following in her father’s hoofsteps from when he'd been her age, she had been quick to sign up for a position on the school newspaper team, had found herself filling the role of reporter; and discovered it was a role she had been born for. The young Pegasus proved herself to have quite the nose for news, and was soon bringing in more stories that the other reporters put together, going to any length to track down the facts she needed. It wasn’t long before her cutie mark – a newspaper – was present for all to see. Soon after this was when she adopted her current dress sense, which she felt was fitting for her station in life – though she would never, ever be caught wearing the tie done up smartly without a very good reason.

It was sometime after this that News Flash first met Bright Amethyst, a young colt three years her junior. It would be fair to say that News was quick to develop something of an attraction towards the immaculately-groomed male, something that she dealt with in the only way she knew how: by picking on him mercilessly.

When the call came out that Twilight and her rebellion were struggling in the fight against Discord, however, News was one of the ponies who got it into her head that she ought to head back to Ponyville to play her part. Leaving a note for her parents, and making her brother swear not to tattletale on her, News hopped the train back to the Chaos Capital of the world in order to do whatever she could; and maybe snatch some sweet news stories into the bargain. Frontline reporter on the fight against Discord – she could completely imagine that being her.

Shortly after arrival, however, News found herself thrown into a completely new world. For once, the little pegasus’ confidence deserted her; she was unsure, even scared, and it was only after stumbling across Eris and her the other alternate children and learning that she wasn’t the only one here that News Flash began to get her old spunk back. She is not, however, at all happy with the arrangements in this world; like many other ponies from her particular slice of reality, News flat-out refuses to work with this world’s Discord, even if he isn’t the same one who rules her homeland.
