After the incident that resulted in the births of Eris and Squallfeather, Twilight turned her attention elsewhere for a time. She looked after her daughter while simultaneously keeping an eye on Fluttershy and little Squallfeather. As her daughter grew, she began to realize just how much she cared about Spike. He had always been there for her through thick and thin, even before she'd been crowned princess of friendship, and Twilight was all too happy to pursue the idea of dating him. After a time, the two were married and had a daughter of their own. This was Inky Scales.

While Eris protected Squallfeather from bullies and the like, Inky Scales had her own problems growing up. The first of which was the fact that she felt pressure from being the daughter of two important residents of Ponyville. Her mother was the princess of friendship, and her father the savior of the Crystal Empire. Anypony would have felt pressure from being the product of such a relationship. For a time, Inky Scales found solace in her artwork and befriending Eris and Squallfeather. After a time, though, she came to realize that there wasn't any pressure coming from Twilight or Spike. They told her to be what she wanted to be. Not what anyone else expected her to be.

Eventually, Inky earned her cutie mark when she realized her talent as a comic writer and artist. This was short-lived, though, because soon she too found herself pulled into the world of the broken mirror. She sought shelter amongst the other ponies like her, and currently stays with them.
