Originally, King Sombra was going toward the path of the dark arts. He was intrigued by magic in general, and almost went down that path himself. But when he discovered the mere qualities of the Elements of Harmony, their history. And gently but steadily, he moved away from his path towards the Dark Arts toward a path of light and joyfulness- but also hardships. It was hard to keep the kingdom of Equestria free and happy with Celestia and Luna around. Not to mention when Cadence took over the Crystal Empire from his gentle ruling.
But even with all the destruction going around, King Sombra had ponies to rely on. His ever-faithful student, Sunset Shimmer was learning fast, and he kept a close watch on her, guiding her throughout her studies. He watched her grow to be the Element of Magic and a princess, and he thought maybe, just maybe, with Sunset stronger than ever with her friends, they'd be able to finally fight off the destruction that was being caused by Celestia, Luna, and the Mane Six.
But when the children of different worlds started showing up, Sombra knew it must mean something.

Sombra ran one hoof through his mane as he thought about the influx of ponies - and mostly children at that - coming into the castle. Strange was the least you could say about it. When asking one certain one - Eris, her name was - she revealed her parents were Discord and Twilight. A strange combination to say the least, and it worried him. Could Eris be from the world that Celestia was from? Sombra hadn't seen her... for a while now since they promised to never see each other again. But why would Celestia open up the portal and send children here. It couldn't have been her. Unless she sent them to help... with the current situation.
But why send them here without any warning? No, it must have been something else that had brought all these ponies to this world. And it had to be for a reason.[/div]
